JDM 550 Package on its way!
Just ordered the JDM 550 package yesterday.
The guys over there were tremendously helpful, and even will be programming the tune to account for the new Saleen intercooler being released at the end of March, which I am going to order. Ryan at JDM said I should see 475 RWHP easily, and that I wouldn't need to worry about motor issues.
I will be doing the install myself, and will take some pics to post here.
My only concern is the Extreme dual fuel pump, but Ryan assured me its more of a slow process than one that is techinally difficult.
Can't wait!

I think you should seriously question not having to "worry about any motor issues," when you have 475 rwhp or 550 flywheel hp from a motor which has about 260 rwhp stock and 300 flywheel. All anecdotal evidence seems to indicate a need for forged internals for much above 400-425 rwhp, but certainly for 475 rwhp/550 flywheel hpeven with a supposedly "safe" tune. Remember, it's your motor and money, not theirs!

True- but I look at it from the point of:
A- I don't race or hot rod my car.
B- If it blows, its a good reason to get forged internals
I also have faith that JDM has done enough testing and tuning to know where the safe cutoff is- they are saying the tune is safe to carry the motor at the 475, but if I get to 500 RWHP I stand a good chance of losing the motor if I don't upgrade toat least a forged bottom end.

JDM is one of the few companies that I would trust with a tune past 450 rwhp. I think he should be fine as I ran my car with 485 rwhp for a little while but I took it down to 454 rwhp just to be safe

RE: JDM 550 Package on its way!
Hello everyone in the Stang world. New to the forum. I recently purchased a 2005 Saleen s281 black on black #1117. I am from Chicago and can't wait til summer!!! Only drove it three times before it went into storage thanks to our wonderful winter!!! Would love to meet other members and crusie. If anyone knows of upcoming shows or gatherings please let me know. Just became a member to SCOA and just got my first brochure. I do have a question regarding rear brake kit. I have the upgraded 14inch Saleen crossed-drilled in front already but the UGLY rear brakes have to go. I was told by Saleen parts that the 14inch uprage kit will not fit on rear. Can anyone suggest where I can get the 14inch crossed drilled kit for the REAR???? Chi-towns finest!!! where did you get the 550 from??? COST??????

Welcome to the forums usmc....
For the OP, our shop has a Whippled GT with 485rwhp on pump gas that gets driven HARD all the time and in every way....20,000+ miles and no engine problems. These cars are stronger than most give credit. Once the 450rwhp mark is breached, it is VERY dependent on the tune to keep the engine from grenading. Keep us posted and congratulations on your purchase!

Congradualations Unclemilti. I had the 550 upgrade installed at the Troy Saleen plant in September, I'm on 16 timing, so I'm seeing about 475rwhp. I drove it in 86 degree weather for a few days in Sept. and it pulled great, and my Saleen gauges indicated reasonable temps while running. So far it's amazing, and it still frightens me, like on a clear beautiful day as today was, I was down shifting at 63mph from 5th into 3rd and I still can't believe how fast that thing gets to 100mph. Awsome!
I also went on the new intercooler list as soon as Jim posted about it. It will make me feel a lot easier about summer coming up, with all that psi. It gets to 12psi by 3700rpm and slowly climbs to 14psi as you hit 6200 or so. The max HP on this pully is from 5700- 6200rpms, according to the Saleen Dyno run, so there is really no need to pull past 6300rpms. I'm thrilled to be able to talk to another person on this tune now, since no one else I've fished for in the forums seems to have it, or care to post about it. Jerad posts about it occasionally. Let me know how it goes, Erik

Congrats on your purchase! I've had the 550 upgrade (installed by Saleen-Irvine) for several months now & the difference is amazing. It's a whole different feel and the acceleration is UNBELIEVABLE! Absolutely no problems at all with this power range ( mine is my daily driver also) so far.
