I don't think weight made that much difference, it was prob in the suspension and aerodynamics of the 599 because it was the inside track tire that was going to pieces around the oval, along with the heat out here where it's really dry. The driver commented that it was way better in handling because of it's design. So that means to me that the pirellis are only good for about 25 miles at 190 because they do not have a great wear factor...kinda scary. They only made 4 or 5 laps.

Also the vette will not hug the track as well and still will tend to lift because they did not do much in the way of a rear wing and only put a few pass through air holes on the side(stll hard to tell the dif between it and a Z06 for instance)

As with any large purchase, I will do alot of research first. Maybe some pros and cons and deciding what kind of usage the tires will be exposed to. Street drag racing is probably not for me. I like to go fast and corner even better there's nothing like feeling the pull at 100mph to over 130mph in just a matter of seconds. And approaching some nice corners and reducing speed in the blink of an eye and accerating through it.

The Nittos DO NOT have the best speed rating for me.

One thing I did notice was that the 305 pirellis should be on a 10.5" wheel, whereas the Michilen 305's are spec for 10" wheel, I found this to be an interesting fact that Saleen had started using the Pirellis on their 10" wheels and as you said along with the watts link, maybe thats why.

For me just knowing that I have equipment able to exceed the normal standards is good insurance, even though I may not push it to the limits continuously it's still there if I need it.

Not sure I wanna "experience" my tires disintegrating at 190 MPH

As for the Nitto's speed rating, how fast do you want to go? Aren't they Z rate for over 149 MPH?

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.

Eric, my car is being driven about 1000 miles a year right now so I am not too worried about tread wear

Searching around the ultraweb, I found this thread, which seemed interesting. According to this thread, not all 315s are the same width:

Anyone else heard this before? I hadn't.

^ Yup. My R888's run wider than many 315's. The tires are widest at the outter edge for improved grip on the twisties. There is a sort of "flange" that allows the tire to roll up on it's edge and, like Johnny Cash.... Walk The Line

I needed to run an 11" wheel just to get the look/fit I wanted. I will put a set of 315 PS2's on my Winter wheels this Summer , but will probably not widen those wheels as they run "thinner" than the R888's and should look/fit just fine on their own 10.5" wheels.

^ Not a prob, Mickster

Just let me know when you are up this way and we'll hook up. I would like to check out the Barricade as well. I have met a few on the forums that live in the area and sure I could get a few together. I know AmyVC has moved to Mill Valley, so she might be up for it as well.
