Here's an interesting read about the 302 being underrated:

The 5.0 magazine article isn't the one I remember reading, it must have been in a different magazine but isn't available through 5.0.

My point is that don't take info at face value, even here.
perhaps red devil could shed some light on weather or not the 302E was redesigned from the ground up!! and perhaps tell us what was done different.

I thought they just took the motor from the PJ cars.

IIRC, the compression on the PJ engine is too high to allow a blower to be added, so some mods would have had to be done.

The block is bored the same, the pistons are different because its a different compression, the heads on the Extreme are CNC ported and the PJ is not, and I believe there are different cams in the E engine as well.

so would you consider this a ground up redesign to reach 302ci or basicly just slightly overstroked as compared to most other kits at 298 ci? because a 281E aside of stroking has the same basic set up correct?

I guess. There are big differences in the 281 and 302E engines. The compression is higher on the 302 and that's how the higher hp is achieved, it's not just displacement. Also I don't believe that the 281E heads were ported. I know that between 05-06E and 07-09E they also changed some things like the rings which made initial power slightly lower until they broke in. The 302E engines also benefit from an upgraded water pump.

I'm sure the cams were probably different from 281 to 302E as well.

the reason the PJ's don't have bumper numbers is because they were on the dyno before a bumper number was a assigned to the vehicle, so they were done by the last VIN numbers.
