08 Roush 427r stage 3
how much power can the 08 427r s/3's make safely?
(Maximum amount of whp)
I don't own one, I am curious of how much power they are capable of making on the stock motor/tranny.
I have an 08 GT and gonna get a blower on it soon, I know the 'SAFE' zone for the s197s are 420ish whp.. I am guessing the Roush can take 550ish whp??
I might be considering an upgrade to a GT500 or Roush..

Roush only puts forged internals on one model and that is in the P51. It comes with the TVS blower and makes 510 flywheel hp from Roush. All other Roushcharged model come with stock Ford internals and should be safe to 450 rwhp.

that's still pretty bad ***. I wish I could've gotten a hold of the 08 Roush 427R when they first came out, but the dealership up here is odd. All they had were GTs and convertable sixxers. I then told them I wanted an automatic GT and they were like "what in the world? why?" lol..
Funny enough, if I were to get the 427R, it would also be an auto lol..

I was playing with the idea of building up the motor and tranny first and then get a blower to put down some REALLY big numbers, though I was thinking if it would be easier to start off with a GT500 or something that's equally as built from the factory.

Frankly, if you have access to the shop and all that equipment, why not see how far you can push the 4.6? The donor motor will be much less expensive, and with forged internals, forced induction, etc., you can make some serious power. Plus, GT500s are notoriously nose-heavy due to that 5.4.
Also, not to knock the 500 because it is a great car, but one of the reasons I went with the Roush was because it felt to me like it was a much more "balanced" machine versus the 500. Plus, the 427 has all the Roush suspension pieces in it already, so it handles better AS DELIVERED. The 500 can be made to handle better than the Roush with the correct suspension parts, but as they are delivered, they can be a bit sloppy in the handling department. And the brakes. BUT, again, that's just my take.

that's true, if I got the Roush it would already have a bad *** suspension system and a blower.. all I would have to do is build the motor and up the boost, then work on the transmission a little bit and be running really good times.
I don't mind building up the motor on the 4.6 GT at all... been curious of the Roush's lately ever since I seen a few in town. I raced one of them, driven by an older guy, beat him by default by 3 cars off the line because he simply had no traction lol. Though in the side mirror, it was obviously gonna pull in the higher gears...
