Default New member....need some advice??

I am a new member to the forums.....hello everyone. I am looking into getting my 1st Saleen and had a quick question. An '03 under 10k miles for right around 20k. Its a S281E, only issue is the orig motor locked up and was repaired and put back in by Saleen but it is still not the orig motor. Is it still worth the money? I have heard they are rare but I wanted some feedback from you folks. Thanks

That's a great price for a S281E (Extreme) with under 10k miles. Make sure you call Saleen in MI for verification of the vin#. Also, make sure there is an "E" after 281 on the engine bay plaque.

The 02-04 Saleen S281 extreme motors were assembled in a "slappy" way. No pun intended. The engines for many of the cars had actual piston slap at cold start up and actually sound a little like a diesel. That was not catastrophic per se but some bowed to the demons.

See if there is any paperwork that proves that the car went back to Saleen and they did the rebuild. That would help.

You're talking about this one, right?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...fCarsQ5fTrucks

If so, the last 3 digits of the VIN check out as an extreme...but you'd want to call saleen to verify the authenticity.

Not a bad price for what it is as long as the car is in good shape mechanically. I'd want to go check the car out and drive it first, though, considering it's been tuned.

You never know how good or bad of a tune it has....so it's worth looking into it a little.

Kinda makes me wonder why it's going for a lower price. Then again....it still has 3 days on the auction left.

This is the phone # at Saleen in Troy 800-888-8945

It's always good to have them authenicate any car in question - there is a reference book, but although not many, there have been errors discovered. You can't be too safe -
Good luck!

^+1 definitely worth a 10 minute phone call. If you do buy it let us know. I would love to hear you get a great deal on an E car. Makes me feel good that one day I can get an 03/04 one for myself at a good price.
