Intercooler Fluid Temp...2008 Roush 428R

Hi guys,

I just purchased a Roush 428R. I did the 30,000 service and I also changed the oil in the M90 Supercharger. It was superlow on oil, I pulled 30cc out and I put 150cc in it! It pushes about 8pounds of boost now, before it could only get to about 4.

One thing I have noticed, (Performance is not affected, but still worries me a little) the water temp gauge for the supercharger seems to run between 160 and 180, depending on stop and go traffic. I did not change the intercooler fluid, and I have tested the pump it is circulating.

The fluid looks good and clean. I'm thinking that the fluid temp is just too high. What do you guys think?
1.) Should I change the fluid and what fluid should I use?
2.) Is it worth the investment to upgrade the intercooler to a fan assisted one? (If so which one will fit the Roush front fascia?)

Anything else I am missing?

Thanks for your input, I love the information on this forum, I have learned a lot lately.

I have a 427R which is the same set up as yours. I would think those temps would be about right. Roots blowers make a lot of heat. I would certainly change the intercooler fluid and make sure you add something like water wetter to help heat exchange. Actually, if you want to save some money just add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to your anti freeze water mixture.

You could change to another intercooler. Not sure you would gain that much. I think there are only a couple on the market that would fit. Used to be a lot of info on this on the fnsweet site which is no more. Try searching youtube videos.

Thanks svfetter, I will take your advice and start by changing the fluid out. We are coming into summer so I think I will just put in distilled water, and water wetter. I have read some blogs and watched some test videos that show that the gain in cooling efficiency is minimal.
