Default Shift ****

I need to take off the polished shift **** on my 2005 S281 and not sure the best method it to do this. I looked for a set/locking screw and found none, so i tried to just twist it off with no luck. Dont want to crank on it too hard if someone knows the "right" process, for fear of breakage

Not sure if the 2005 is similar to the 2004. Is it a Momo like previous years?

If so...there is a silver metal trim ring beneath the leather/carbon fiber ****. Unscrew the ring and it will reveal three set screws. Simple as that.

If anyone is interested, there is no set/locking screws on the 2005 Saleen ****, and the method I used was a vice grip around the lever and a channel lock w/towel around the bottom of the ****. Broke loose right away with these hand tools. Standard counterclockwise to loosen.

I have spent an hour with help trying to get the damn **** off. No dice. Mine seems like it is welded on. Tried everything that was suggested on this forum.

I had the same problem with my 2003. Yes , you turn the silver ring only (not the **** itself) and you turn it counter-clockwise. THIS IS WHERE I MADE MY MISTAKE. Counter-clockwise refers to the silver ring as if you were looking at it from the shift boot UP toward the ****. In other words, the ring screws off from the BOTTOM of the ****. I was turning the darn thing counter-clockwise as I looked at it from the TOP of the shift ****---big mistake. I eventually realized my mistake and it finally came off. So, if you are looking at the shift **** from the TOP, turn the ring to the RIGHT, towards the passenger door, that's counter-clockwise.
I hope this helps.

This **** in question is the 2005, and it is the ENTIRE **** that turns. There are no rings or set screws. The **** just simply unscrews in typical threading. If it was installed with locktight then you will need some serious elbow grease.

Mine came of VERY easy.
