Good one Gun Jam! Forgot all about the condenser. It could be heating up and shorting for sure. If it was open then the points would pit up but not kill the car, so it probably is shorting out...

How old are they? Most pads are bonded not riveted anymore. Cause, age, heat, poor material bad wheel bearing, etc. As odypilot said" if chunks brake off you might be in trouble.

did you remove and replace the pink wire from the ignition switch to the coil? You still need either the pink wire or the proper resistor (150001 if a Super Coil) or the coil over heats and dies.

At 10 gal/hr you will get a pressure drop in an 8 foot 1/4 OD pipe of about 1.6 psi. At 20 you will lose 6.9 psi approximately and that is in a clean pipe. So make sure the pipe is clean.
