Replace Serpentine Belt on a 1996 V6 Mustang
Hello,
My serpentine belt has a lot of cracks, and it's time to replace it.
Since am in a saving mode, I figured out I could buy the belt and replace it myself ...
Do you know where I could find the instructions to d this job myself?
Also, any recommendations on belt brands?
Thanks!

I would go to Napa or a reputable parts store and purchase a belt. There is a tension pulley right by the A/C. It has a big bolt(15mm or something, it's pretty big) get the right wrench and pull up, it' will release the belt. On my old 95, there was a diagram for how the belt is suppose to go. The 2000 I used to own didn't have it so I'm not sure for your year. You can do this by yourself, but it's alot easier with a few extra hands. GL

To clarify, the tensioner will still have tension on it, so once you relieve the pressure on the belt by moving the tensioner, slide the belt off the tensioners pulley and then _slowly_ let the tensioner go back to its normal position. Don't let it snap back into place or you could damage it. At this point the belt should be loose and you can remove it completely. Then reverse the procedure to install the new one. Shouldn't take more then 10 minutes if you know what your doing, and 30 if you don't and you take your time. Good luck...

The pictures don't show which pulley is the tensioner. I have a couple of small pulley's that "could" be it. One up next to the alternator, one down on the left on what looks like an "arm" (it has a star Allen wrench hole in it) And (from memory) I think there's even one more somewhere near the crank pulley. None of these look like they are even adjustable. My belt slipped off last night and I got it back on but I know it's not on one of the small pulley's. Any help would be great. Thank you.
