Default Wavetrack vs T2R Differentials

Considering the price is similar, which one would be a better choice for a daily driver/track day car that sees some drag racing on street tires? I know the T2R is not recommended for drag racing applications, but is that for all drag racing or just those using slicks or drag radials? As far as the wavetrack goes I've been reading about it, but does anyone here actually own one?

wavetrac is similar to eaton trutrac in that it is a helical gear differential, haven't looked up the T2R, so not sure what it is, but for drag racing, the preferred is a spool (which pretty much makes it undriveable on the streets), then the Detroit Locker (better driveability on the streets, but not ideal). Then the helical gear differentials (completely driveable) then to the clutch pack limited slip diffs (just have to replace clutch packs occassionally).

My buddy put a wavetrac in his 135i recently and it transformed that car but, it had the stupid E-diff previously.

T2R has torque biasing too much for drag racing. You will explode it, even on street tires. The T1 Torsen in the Boss 302 is *ok* for occasional drag racing because the biasing is far lower.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the plate type traction lok standard equipment. I have put hundreds of passes on trac loks and no issues with them. I used to restack the plates to get better grip and pull the S springs out on the 28 spline units but, I've never touched the one in either of my Coyotes. My old 2012 was a 3.73 car and had GT500 carbon plates standard. I don't know what's in my 2014 auto but, it's working fine as well.

I don't drag race much, mostly road racing, but my club occasionally goes drag racing. I guess I'll give the wavetrac a try. I need to swap gears anyway, back to 4:10's. 3:73's are too tall for my track. I guess I'l have to live with the high revs at highway speeds.

What's got you thinking you need a different diff than what you have? I'm curious.

Basically I'm looking for more traction coming off the corners.

You sure it's the diff? What have you done to the rear suspension? I find more problems with suspension setup than diff choice.

You could just, as I noted earlier, restack the plates. Basically cram as many as you can in there and still get the spider gears in. Cheap and effective.

True. I might end up doing that. As far as the rear suspension goes, it doesn't have a single stock part left in it and neither does the front.

Here's a small sample. Next track day is in September, but I signed up for a driver's course for August. I'm aware my driving leaves a lot to be desired

Ok but, what have you actually done back there? Things like poly control arms, shocks, springs and sway bars can affect how much traction you get off turns, if they aren't well matched. More grip at the back might produce more of the push I see in the video.

In short, what makes you think the diff is the problem?

To end on a positive note: Good for you for taking your car to the track!
