ECU MODULE

ECU MODULE
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone had any advice for my 1965 289 coupe? I am on the second ecu module for this car and the gel on the back side keeps melting out and dripping on fender and frame. Any insight as to what is causing this? Thanks for any help

Being a 1965, you don't have an ECU. The very first ECU was introduced in 1968 by
Vokswagen. Then in 1978 was Datsun, afterwards in 1980 by GM, bla bla bla.
Not sure what you have, an ignition module or something, but NOT an ECU if it's
original. Show us a picture of it.

That is a factory style Ford Duraspark II ignition module that a previous owner installed and is a great upgrade over the points system that originally came in the car. As to why it's puking the resin out, I couldn't tell you. One of the cheap ChiCom aftermarket boxes that I had did the same thing and when I replaced it with an OEM module I never had that problem again.
You don't have it mounted too close to a heat source, ie, exhaust manifolds, do you?

A bit of interesting 411 about those boxes. If you can find one with a white plug, the one you pictured has a blue plug, but the boxes with the white plugs retard the ignition timing 10º while cranking which comes in handy.
I built a new 351w and when I had the blue plug box installed I had to have the timing so far retarded that I lost all kinds of power but when I put the white plug unit in that allowed me to run my timing where it needed to be while allowing me to easily crank the engine.
