Default What is this?

Did some exploratory surgery on my auction car and found all kinds of stuff out back that don't look stock.

Can any of you shed some light on what looks like it belongs and what doesn't? I'm COMPLETELY unfamiliar with these cars. Coulda sworn they had leaf springs...mine doesn't and, after a bit of Googling, the J&M bits are part of a control arm set...so that means the springs and sway bar are also probably not stock...right?

And the LSD? Was the LSD an option?

'04 GT 5-speed.

Thanks!!

No leaf springs, shocks and sway-bar, or pan-hard bar.

Those are not stock springs.

J&M Hot Part is a bracket, to modify the rear suspension, not to get rid of
leaf springs. They stopped using leafs a long time ago on the mustang.

You should be able to find those parts there.

Wicked flow mufflers, aftermarket...

Not an open diff, that will need attention... The tooth noise probably means it's out of
gear oil. I see tape on the bottom of the diff, so there probably was a leak. I would
not be running that making all that noise.

Awesome. Thanks for all the info!

The suspension and exhaust setup particularly good or bad?

Yea, it makes a ton of noise as you drive it and, after hearing the gears as I turned the wheels by hand...and seeing all the leaky mess...glad I don't drive it! I'm going to do the diff oil next weekend. Hopefully that quiets things down.

Is all that play in the diff normal? I could turn one wheel quite a bit without the other moving at all...

Thanks again!

That play is backlash... There is some, but not sure how much is bad, on an LSD or POSI.
That doesn't look good though... Some of it will go away with gear oil.... That diff sounds
empty.

As far as the suspension and exhaust, it's better than stock... I can't say if it's
bad or good, it depends on the driver. I don't like a loud exhaust, so bad for me,
fine for others. Suspension upgrades are good...

Hey...I'm good with that. Better is better! lol

Hopefully some diff maintenance will fix it. If so, all that will be left to do is get the exhaust fixed and replace a couple interior parts and it'll be time to sell! SWEET!!

Thanks again!
