Hey guy I've got to replace the multifunction turn signal / bright light switch in my 07 GT and I'm wondering if anyone can give me the heads up on how involved a job it is ?

Title says turn signal, then the detail says the stalk... Nice... Here I was, thinking, just
change the bulb, and how, nope... Nice bait and switch; oh, SWITCH, get it? Ha ha ha...



Got to take the steering wheel shroud off, all the plastics, and replace it.
It's not hard, just labor...

Hi Heres why I think its the stalk, arm lever choose your term when I pull back on it to turn on my bright lights the switch won't lock into place. The bright lights come on but I have to hold the lever back to keep them on.

You gotta pull the wheel on these cars? Damn, usually it's just like a 15 minute job, just gotta remove the column trim.

NOT according to "08mustangdude" you do NOT have to pull the wheel. He says I just have to remove steer wheel plastic covers then its plug and play.

Never done one myself on these cars but here's the Ford Workshop manual for it.

According to this, yes, steering wheel must be removed.

But, See if the two plastic halves of the shroud can be removed without removing the steering wheel. If so, you can probably leave the steering wheel in place. If not, then there is no choice but to remove the steering wheel.

If it's ONE piece, you have to pull the wheel off. If you can replace just
the one side, then no. For my Volkswagen, I had to take the wheel off,
the clock spring off, and change the whole assembly. However, IF I could
just buy the stalk I needed, I could have finagled the original out, and put
the new one in. VW only sells it as both stalks.. Now, that I pulled the
assembly off, I have a spare left stalk, should I need to replace it, without
pulling it all apart.

This is Part 9 in the diagram linked above, should be able to be pulled out with snap tabs or
something.

I thought you PUSHED the lever forward to turn on the brights, and pulled back for the "optical horn" - which you would have to hold in order to keep them lit (exactly as you described)

What is the blue blazes is an optical horn ? Never mind I figured it out. NO! you push it forward to blink your high beams and pull it backwards to lock the high beams in the on position.

On my 2008, it has two pull back positions:
Hi beam "horn", heh heh, is first position pull back and release, to flash.

For Hi beam ON, it pulls back one step farther (all the way), and release. There is no
lock into place, it's electronically controlled with a relay.

Hi-beam off, pulls back all the way, then release. First position does nothing with the
hi-beams on.

I do not have a push forward position.

My 2008 HHR was the same.
