Hello,

When attempting to start my Mustang, for the first time this year, it would not start with an obvious sign with no gas going to the carb and the fuel pump leaking. After replacing the fuel pump, nothing changed. I pulled the fuel line before the fuel filter with it being dry. I cranked on it for a good 10 mins or so with nothing changing. Thoughts?

When taking the old fuel pump out there was gas in it.,

Nope there is gas in the tank. Is it possible to install a fuel pump wrong? It went in and all I had to do was push down on the pump due to resistance from the spring pushing against the cam. I did hear pressure when cracking the fuel line loose before the fuel filter to see if gas would come out.

It's really hard to install a mechanical fuel pump wrong. How long was the car sitting for before starting it? Just wondering because if it sat long enough with fuel in the tank, then the gas essentially could turn to an almost glass like substance, clogging the fuel lines. Had that happen to me.

It sat for a year. We live in Minnesota so it's hard to get it out all the time due to the weather. I always put seafoam in it for the last 20 years. Do you think from my description I installed the fuel pump wrong?

When your gas hardened, what did you have to do to get it unplugged?

Like I said, really hard to install those the wrong way. But I had to drop the tank, and shake out the material, had to use a piece of rebar to brake up what was left hardened at the bottom and then shake the rest of it out.

Easy to test. Get a hose and a hose fitting, the type you push the hose onto, with the proper thread and thread it into the input of your pump. Do the same on the output.. Put the input into a gas can and crank the engine. Fuel should come out the other hose. If not bad pump, crap in the valves from a dirty tank, bad diaphragm or wrong pump. If yes, either crap in the tank, or a pinched line or a problem in the filter or carb. inlet. Connect the output back to the line that goes to the filter and carb, but leave the input in the gas can.. If the carb doesn't fill then bypass the filter. If still doesn't fill rebuild the float valves.
