3.8 to 4.0 questions
#2
You would be better off with a 4.6 swap, and find one for that year. The
4.0 is a different engine altogether, but use the manual trans from the
V6 motor. The automatic is where the problems are. Plus, all that work
for a 4.0 will only net you +20 horse power, going from 190 to 210.
3.8 to 4.6:
The wiring from the 3.8 and the 4.6 are different so you need to get the 4.6 transmission wiring.
You can buy either a T45 or a T3650. The main difference being that the T3650 has syncronizers for
all hears, while T45 is syncroed for 1st - 4th like the T5 in the 3.8. Also the T3650 is a little stronger.
If your going automatic with the 4.6 you would be getting a 4R70W.
Need the engine wiring harness and ECU from the 4.6
I would recommend getting the 4.6 Cluster. It will be the right speed reading and the right tach reading.
4.0; You can't use an S197 cluster in the SN97, so wiring it to work with your cluster would be a huge project.
The vacuum brake booster used in the 3.8 is to big, so you have to get one from the 4.6 car.
You will need a K-member, radiator & fan out of a 4.6 mustang.
It's not even worth it to go to the 4.2, you'd be under powered compared to every
other GT out there.
Plus, I haven't seen or read that anyone has put the 4.0 in the SN97. They're all 4.6
V8 swaps, or even 5.0.
Can't use the 3.8 and trans combo drive-shaft.

TwinTurbo Avdvice
I have a 02, 3.8 and I’m considering adding a twin turbo kit. I have two questions... What results should I expect? Also, besides the kit itself; what else might I need to keep my car running well and smooth?
