Default 5.0 Engine Rebuild

Last week got offered a stock 5.0 from a totaled 2013 Mustang but there was water in the engine. The guy assured me it was from a flood but idk. Thought about tearing it down and rebuilding it but as I've never rebuilt an engine I did not know if it would be worth the time or effort. Should I take the engine or just wait for a better one to pop up?

Default 5.0 Engine Rebuild

Jordan_2014, I am sure the seller of this car is being truthful, but if it was me, I would wait for another engine.

Water in the block, after a accident, could indicate a cracked block, and/or a cracked head.

He didn't say anything about an accident. The car was totaled due to a flood but if water got inside the engine, forget it and just look for another one. Coyote engines are dime a dozen now.

That and water alone will not damage the internals of an engine. If the engine had water in it and someone tried to crank it, it could have been hydrolocked and caused a lot of internal damage. Bent rods at best; Rods, cylinder wall and crank damage at worst.

I'd pass.

Edit: unless it's a free motor and you want to learn how to rebuild a coyote engine...
