Default 6-Speed Auto "Issues"

I just purchased a '14 Premium Performance package 'Stang with only 12k miles on it. First pony car I've ever owned. Still smells like a new car on the inside. Given the fact that even the V6 iteration of this car is a performance car, why in the world would Ford marry that 3.7L sweetie with a automatic trans that is more at home in, say, an Explorer? Is there anyway to mod this trans to get it to shift with more authority? I think, as is, it REALLY limits the performance of this otherwise sweet performance car! Anything?

You can go to MPT Performance web site and buy an SCT hand held tuner with a couple of their tunes for around $600. My 2011 v6 with the mods I have will bark the tires when it shifts into 2nd gear and sometimes chirp the tires when it shifts into 3rd gear .

Just get a tune as said. That will change the throttle response as well as the shifting pressure and points.

Love that 👍
I'm curious about putting a tune on mine basically for this reason- the shifting. Just want it to feel a little more old school. Not really looking to bark 1st to 2nd, as cool as that is, but just a little more authority would be good. I've read that the autos are decent in these cars. Has your 11 held up well with the more aggressive shift pressure? Was also thinking about switching out the final gearing from 2.73 but I'm not sure I want to go all the way to 3.73 unless peeps here advise it as the best choice. Thought maybe 3.15 would still keep her calm cruising in the 70-80 range... (I also wish we had some control over the lock up torque converter)

I ordered my 2011 in February 2010. It came in on May 2010. No tunes were being sold yet. Evolution Performance made a tune for my Mustang I believe in August 2010. Jon Lund was the one who made my first tune and it was great. With just the tune (93 octane performance tune) my 0 to 60 times went from 6.1-6.2 seconds to 5.7-5.8 seconds. I ordered my Mustang with the 3.31 rear gear ratio. That should have been the standard ratio but Ford wanted to sell the v6 Mustang as the first car with 'over 300 horsepower and over 30 miles per gallon', so the standard gear ratio was 2.73 to get the gas mileage. I have now switched to MPT Tunes. I've always been running a Tune since August 2010 but I only have 39,000 miles on my 2011 Mustang If I could get traction, I'm sure my Mustang would do a 0 to 60 in the high 4 seconds, with the mods I have My transmission is doing great but I did have my local Ford dealer do a filter and fluid flush at 20,000 miles. I had a Ford gift card for $200 my sister got me. The flush cost $197 but that was several years ago

Thanks for all that info! Sounds like yours is a force to be reckoned with. So 3.31 seems like the ratio I'd be happier with and an MPT . I originally was looking at all the V8s manuals but this one spoke to me and came home, so I'm alright with losing a little mpg since it wasn't the focus when buying a pony 👍.

So, I went to MPT Performance and bought a tune. It was Econo 87 tune. Wasn't impressed. I didn't notice any real difference in how my car shifted. I got a better tune next, and the shifting was better, but still NOT what I'm looking for. It doesn't shift with AUTHORITY. Back in the day with a 3-speed auto on the tree in a '72 Impala, when you were on it when it went to 2nd it, or you manually shifted it, it shifted in such a way that it launched the car forward. This still just kind of "slips" into 2nd. Also, my fuel economy went down. I went back to the stock tune, with the LAZY, slippy shifting. Blah. At least I'll get my fuel economy back. Not impressed with "tunes!"
