Need opinions on a possible purchase
I'm looking to buy a 2017 GT and it has everything that I'm looking for. I looked up a carfax on it and it is saying at 28,000 miles the engine was checked, oil pressure was checked, engine/powertrain computer was checked, cam shafts were replaced, timing chain gears replaced, oil control valve replaced, front camshaft oil seal replaced, water pump gasket replaced, engine compression checked, ignition system checked, spark plugs replaced, intake manifold and gasket replaced. It seems to have had normal maintenance done it since then up to 76000 miles with the original owner driving it for another 30,000 miles before being sold and new owner has driven it another 16000 miles and was traded in at a dealership. What in the world happened to this engine? Should I steer clear of it or does it seem like the original issues were worked out? It makes me wonder what in the world happened to it at 28,000 miles to warrant all the replacement parts? Thank you for any input you all could provide.
Get the vin and call a ford service center. They should be able to tell you why it was replaced. Personally it's stay away from it. Sounds like a misfire from low or loss of oil pressure that they couldn't figure out right away so they started throwing parts at it. Timing is controlled by vvt solenoids to advance/retard the camshaft timing. The timing chain tensioners are also controlled by oil pressure.... damage is done to rod and main bearings. You'll get a call from uncle Rodney soon enough (rod bearing knock).
