New To this Whole Carb Set Up. Couple Of ?'s
Well I went to the "dark " side and bought my first carbed and auto car. This is a new beast to learn since I have never owned a carbed stang (many fi cars). I have a few questions for you carb guys and guys with auto's with stall conv. First question is why when I have the car idleing sometimes a little smoke comes out of the breather on the valve cover. Is the normal? Second for the tranny question, when I pull up to a stop light and put the car in first it does not want to move, and sometimes I have to give it more gas to get moving(and yes I did check the tranny fluid). Is that because the conv has to fill up again? This is not my daily driver I just take it out a few times a week to run it. Sorry if these questions seem stupid but this is all new to me. Here is a build sheet I got from the guy:
ENGINE: 351 Cleveland bored .30 over making it a 357
11:1 compression

With a 4500 stall converter you would have to give it a little push from a stoplight but you should be able to feel the car in gear. As far as the smoke coming from the breather on the valve cover goes I'm pretty sure on this build it has a double breather with no PCV. The engine produces pressure in the bottom as the pistons move up and down. If the engine is in good shape you shouldn't see much coming out of the valve cover breather. Here's the low down, You bought a drag car in street car trim. Buy some tools because you will be needing them. If you are not knowledgable about cars you need to unload this one.
