Which V8 and Tranny?
High bidder on eBay. Bought a 1936 Mercedes 540K Thoroghbred Kit Car with a 1981 Washington State title. I'm in Calif. Previous owner pulled out the orig 1981 Mstg 5.0/C4 and entire exhaust. I like the '85 5.0 with 600cfm Holley and roller cam. What transmission should I get? The floor tunnel is narrow and the kit calls for a C4. The rear end has a 4-link Mustg axle. Someone put 25K miles on this car. It has Mustg ll pwr rack & pinion steering, drive shaft, pwr brakes and ebrake all in working order. I've owned a 65,67,68 Mstg Fstbks. Did the '85 5.0 come with mandatory catalytic convertors? Thanks.

Bummer. I've only owned 1972 and older muscle and classic cars. I'm used to Holley 4 BBL's and was thinking getting the '85 5.0 engine because of the 600 cfm holley that one year with a roller cam. Fuel Inj is Greek to me. Calif smog rules require a 1981 5.0 or newer because the car was built in 1981 and titled in 1981. Whatever engine I choose must have that years emissions, computer, etc. I don't believe I can sneak it in on SB100 which allows 500 kit cars a year to be exempt from smog inspections....it's already been titled in Washington might be ineligible. Back to the drawing board.
