u know, being that this is a forum with all mustangs and people that know about mustangs, i wouldn't expect so much negative feedback on this post, but i guess you guys are "too cool" to have a mess up in a race or even admit one everyonce in a while

A buddy of mine has a v6 Malibu. I ran him once in my Maxima and it was pretty close. I spun the tires a little and he got the jump, that's about how it stayed. I think that a v6 Malibu would be great competition for a '96-'98 GT and definately for a Civic.

Today I was going to work and an Impala cut me off... a few minutes later I had gotten in front of him. I moved over into an open lane not knowing he had done the same thing... so he was right on my ***, so I floored it. wound out 2nd gear and he was decently keeping up with me but I was pulling on him.
I believe it was a base Impala with the same 3.4 motor, but it could have been a 3.8.
point is.. the 3.4 motors really only have any potency in the Grand Am GTs... the Malibu and Impala don't have the gearing for racing.

[sm=smiley21.gif] ok well i have had no problems with a malibu, nor any older maxima's which is what im assuming he had... one around a 2000 which push out a whopping 155 HP[sm=smiley36.gif]

Si, the Malibu is a really small car. The base v6 is pretty potent. I can see it running with an Si or a pre '99 GT. You raced him while he was behind you? I've probably got killed by tons of stunna's that way.

RE: raced a malibu
The malibu is still above 3000 lbs. 175 hp only goes so far with a ton and a half of weight... I was looking through the specs and the guy that was behind me with the impala had the base 3.4. He stayed with me, but i was pulling away ever so slowly from him.

Maybe I just launched worst than I thought. It was only one run and I spun pretty bad, but still, I couldn't pull up til about 60mph where we shut down. I had a Saturn, SC2 I think it was, give me a hell of a run in the Maxima too. After that, I knew my car wasn't fast enough.....*brings LT1 into equation*

no, im not near NC... im in MI... and as far as newer maxima's tearing me a new a**hole? that's all well and fine, whatever... i am referring to older maxima's and the 3.4 V6 Malibu, which as i told you, i have raced a few and had no issues what so ever. my friend has a 01 Malibu, that is what i am going off of, mine and his race. and when i looked up the stats for the 00 maxima it said 155 HP. and comparing the brand spankin new model to my 98... c'mon... all family cars/luxury cars now a days come stock with over 200 HP... my 225 is nothing big, or even to brag about, i just dont like being stuck in the same category as malibu's. hoefully this all made sense it's like 3 in the morning haha.

RE: raced a malibu
You looked up the wrong facts is what I was saying. My '97 3.0 v6 had 190/190 hp/tq. The '00 model has a 3.5 v6 with 255hp. Maybe I just launched bad, as I said in the above post.
