Yellow 05 vs Yellow 06 rematch
We raced a month or so back, and I walked all over him by 2-3 car lengths. Well, he went and got a dyno tune, and upped his numbers from 254rwhp in the modded-but-untuned state to 320rwhp/331rwtq. He is basically full bolt-on, as am I. I have an aluminum driveshaft, he doesn't, and he has 4.10s and shorties to my 4.30s and long tubes. However, I only put down 306/321, a handicapped power output.
He had a passenger, but I had 350lbs of dead weight (stereo, tool chest, misc parts and tools), and I'm on 20s to his 18s.
We went from a 40 roll because I have a lot more experience launching my car than he does, and because the light turned green before we were ready. He jumped the gun, and started the race with about a 1/2 car length lead. I stopped his pull right away, but stayed at his door all through 2nd and 3rd, and began inching back in 4th. When I hit 5th I started to pull away slowly, and finished about 1/4 car length ahead.
From 40-135, I pull 3/4 of a car length, but we agreed that the higher we would have taken it, the more I would have come out ahead. This was one of the most even races I've ever had, racing side-by-side with him for all of 10 or more seconds and barely coming out ahead! Not too bad for a 14hp/10tq and 100lbs disadvantage though...and it goes to show how much of a difference a simple dyno tune can do for a car!

His a/f is 13.3:1, mine is 13.1:1. I would attribute the power to the dyno used, in all honesty. My driveshaft and 20s pretty much cancel out advantage/disadvantage. My gearing is less than 5% steeper than his, which isn't a whole lot of a difference, but enough to maybe sway in my favor over than large of a spanse of race. I would have powershifted, but I just feel bad about doing it on the car when it's 400+lbs over dragstrip race weight.
So I left out the other half of the story...
We were going 130 and a cop passed on the other side of the median. He flipped around and caught the 06, and I turned off and hid in the neighborhood. He put a call out to all police in the area about it. Fotuneately, he and my friend in the 06 were both Marines, and we were racing on our way to the military base, so he let us both off with a stern warning and some notes in his book, after catching both of us individually...
Then later that night I was bleeding my brakes in the parking lot just off of base, and a cop pulled through, got out, and started talking with us about whether we were the two yellow mustangs racing earlier that day. lol.
