A mustang hooking up better than those tank f-bodies with those wide tires? C'mon, Z28s have been sleds compared to mustangs since at least as far back as 1982...since then the mustang is the one sideways all over the road, it's a lighter car with less focus on suspension and wheels/tires from the factory...the camaro is wider, heavier, lower, with bigger tires...

RE: Smoked 30th Anniversary TA
Um... My Camaro is almost equal weight to the S197 (lighter compared to the Auto) and makes more rwhp... the reason I can't hook is 245/50R16s that came from the factory and the amount of torque I make off of idle. You would undestand but your OHC motor doesn't have the same issue off the line unless there is a blower involved....
But saying that a S197 does not have launching issues is just as blind as his comments. They come from the factory with 235's dont they? And there is PLENTY of power in my New Edge to prevent traction from taking hold, let alone a more powerful S197.
I see no reason why a 3.42 geared 6speed can not launch as well as a 5sp S197 on its crappy tires as well.

235/55/17's to be exact, unless you get the stock 18's which still have a 235/50/18. I have brand new 275/50/17 M&H drag radials if I could just find some 17x9 rims to match my stockers. Apparently there was a run on the 17x9 gray bullits. I can't wait to launch with these new tires and feel that factory clutch start to slip.

I know that your reply was to Richie, who's obviously obliveous to everything.

I always thought the S197's hooked very well stock. They seem to trap really low and still run goot ET's. Probably wouldn't be quite as potent from a roll, but they seem to put every ounce of power on the ground. Bout time Ford built a decent automatic.

Man I hope Richie doesn't leave for too long. I never really get into street/strip, but he has really made me laugh with all the shiz he's been stirring up! I've never raced an ls1, so who knows. I had a chance at an lt1, but he wouldn't go. I did race an ls7 modified though and I kept up pretty good until about 10mph.

RE: Smoked 30th Anniversary TA
I see more S197 cars pull 2.0 60fts stock than I ever have LS1 cars.... and exactly as said above... Look at the ET vs MPH... the S197 has a very good ET for its MPH..so it either makes a ton of power down low and falls off badly up top or makes a little power down low and increases as the rpms rise....
Anyone have a bone stock S197 dyno to compare with an LS1?? If I am not mistaken the power difference in the lower RPMs is pretty big.
