I'm doing a project for a class and need some information about street racing. Got some stuff about how it began (hot rods) and how it's evolving (imports ), etc, but wondered if anyone here had any interesting information about street racing or anything cool to input.

I think it stemmed from moonshiners smuggling their alcohol across country, kind of like NASCAR....

stupidity........do it on a track. Ever wonder why our insurance rates are some of the highest? Because of dumbasses who street race.

he wasent asking anything about how to street race. He is doing a project on it and wanna some info. What does racing at the track have to do with making a project about the history of street racing?

I also believe this is true. Alot of cars stunts are still named after them like the "boot legger's hairpin" and things. They wanted to build cars that could out run & out handle police cars. So they started moding their engines to get more power. And after a while it started to get competitive and lead to street racing.

Their is probly alot of other orgins of street racing, but this is the most commen one that I have heard and it makes sence.

I'm pretty sure street racing started well before '50s, and much earlier than American Graffiti, which didnt even come out until the '70s
