a guy i work with has a vr4 with aftermarket wastegate and bov, and he pulled my friends 03 cobra from a dig by like half a car. it took a week to talk the cobra guy out of selling his car for a vr4. im like, your car is stock, do some modding and watch it come alive, he dosnt get it, he thinks he paid too much and all that, hes pissed cause i beat him and so does the vr4.
i try to keep telling him he could be faster than both of us he he would just spend a little more $$$$$ dam performance noobs!!!! plus i dont think he can drive very well, but he says he gave her all she had....
I raced some random guy out in the valley that had a pretty loud vr4...who knew what it had but i left him behind pretty quick. I think a 03 cobra would destroy most.

my old bpu vr4 ran a 12.7@109 with a 1.79 60'

I only spent about $400-$500 to run those times

I use to pull lightly modded ls1 camaros from a roll...

You guys have no idea until you have seen a healthy one in action.

ALSO, they have the smallest production turbos made. They can buy slightly bigger turbos and upgrade fuel and runhigh 11s low 12seasy

Timely post resurrection. I had a guy in a freshly waxed last gen red 3000GT trying to draft with me on a winding 2 lane highway near my home this past Saturday. I dunno if it was a VR4 or not, but the guy was driving it like he was too good to be stuck behind the likes of me.....only doing 10-15mph over the limit. There was no opportunities to pass because of the constant traffic and numerous curves. I finally got tired of seeing his front bumper disappear under my rearend, so I finally said **** it and dropped it into 3rd.

As I recall, he finally caught back up about 2 miles down the road when I was pumping gas at the local station. Maybe he had a regularSL and not a VR4, can't be sure. Don't think it would have helped though unless he had some mods.

They are some impressive cars, but I'd rather not have to deal with the VR4's 3700 lb curb weight. Guess you can't get AWD for nothin.[&:]

The curb weight on our S197's is close to that.

You must have run some VERY lightly modded LS1's.

well yeah... an ls1 transam I ran had exhaust, lid, and gears and we went from a 30 roll and by 110 I had about 2-3 cars on him. So yeah... lightly modded... from a stop it only gets worse....

BUT put bigger turbos on the vr4 and do some weight reduction and you will have a monster.. bigger turbos can be off a junkyard dsm and all you will need is fuel and a tune

Negative. Curb weight on a base model S197 GT coupe is 3483 lbs. Roughly 3500 if you want to figure in a few options. Now look at the VR4.........curb weight is 3737 lbs. That's almost 500 lbs heavier than the preceeding SL model, which weighs only 3,263 lbs. The AWD drivetrain obviously adds alot of weight there.

that is what everyone says until after they get there *** handed to them by a boat....

I own a mustang and am getting another vr4... with a few hundred dollars you can run 12s all day... how many stangs can say that???

And just because they are heavy doesnt mean they are slow... awd gets them moving from a stop(hence my 1.7 60' times on street tires)... and from a roll they have LOOOONNGG gearing which keeps them in boost... I think my old vr4 1st-50ish(top of gear)2nd-90ish 3-115ish... so they stay in there powerband
