cobb tunes are ok.. except for the fact that everyone has them.. thats y im even droping the ECUtek tune and going for a completely custom tune!
i will be helping my friend out with his gt since that is where i started was working on V8's
what should be his first mod to his gt?
i have on my wrx:
GM 3 port boost solenoid(16 psi)
perrin intercooler hoses
Bosal Divorced Wastegate DP
Gutted mid pipe
custom 3" cbe
Ecutek stage 2 tune with an old setup by ED@Eqtuning in modesto

You've got a nice start to the mods on your Subie 
I had a WRX before my old STi, and at one point it was Cobb stage 2 before I went stage 4 with a UTEC. The Cobb maps are complete garbage man, I had my off the shelf map dyno'd before I went stage 4 just to see how much power i was making... I only hit 199whp on a Mustang dyno and was running super rich. If you get a good Protune though you could probably see 240whp at the absolute most. If you want to see what I had done to my old STi, do a search for me on http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/ and look for my car's for sale thread.
I think your friend should replace his motor with something else, from what I've read about those year 'Stangs on this site. It would probably be cheaper in the long run just to go that route... or if he doesn't have the cash, get a tuned shot of nitrous.
