How to launch with DR's?
 

Making my first trip to the track with DR's Wednesday, I have never ran on anything other than the stock tires before, anyone have an advise on how to launch? I know I need to heat the tire up good so lets assume that is done correctly.

Your best bet is to try and slip the clutch really fast at about 2-3k. I wouldn't suggest to try and dump and go unless you want to bog out the hole, or spin. What drag radials are you using? If they are a sticky-er kind, then you can probably launch higher.

LOL, well holy ****. I just saw that you are supercharged and now you have ET streets....rev it and dump it between 3-4.5k, but beware. Your stock rear end may snap with that much power/tq and ET streets. ET streets are said to be the stickiest drag radial out there.

You will have to experiment with tire pressures. No one can really say what exact PSI you should use, but try about 15-20 pounds and adjust accordingly. Do not go below 10-12 pounds because IMO that's just asking for a wreck.

Yeah I have been wondering if I might snap, I was thinking maybe the drive line or the clutch just slipping all to hell, but hopefully nothing will go wrong. For the psi I was going to start out at 20psi and go down from there, but no lower that 15psi. I am hopping for at least a 12.1 ET, my best with the stock tires is a 12.9 @ 116mph with a 2.1 60ft. I have never been under 2.0 60ft with the stock tires.

I say run 13psi rev to 6K and quick release the clutch[8D]... Its worked for me on Nitto's

i thinkyou'll hit high 11s and drop the clutch at 4k i highly doubt you'll snap the rear

I usually slip it around 4500-5000. Pretty sure dumping it is harder on the rear end than a higher slip. Went 1.7 with just BFG drags(stock suspension) so it seems to be pretty effective.

The M5 compound in those tires does not have to be heated that much to be effective. Unlike most other DR's, you actually only want to spin them quickly for a few seconds.

In the box, put it in second gear and rev to about 5500 rpm and sidestep (dump) the clutch. Keep the rpm's in the 5500-6000 range for about 3 seconds and roll out. Once your staged, rev the car to about 5K and dump the clutch onthe 3rd amber. If the track conditions aren't great and you spin, try the next one at 4000 rpm and go down or up until you find the maximum launch point. It will alays vary from track to track but if the prep is good, you should be able to grab dumping at 5K.

Remember - the biggest burnout mistake most track newbies do is concetrate on making a smoke show. Don't worry about the smoke and don't worry about your RPM's. You have a rev limiter so you are not going to hurt anythig. The ONLY thing you should be looking at during a burnout is your MPH. You want to be going a good 55-60 mph for a few seconds. That is all that matters...;)
