98 GT vs Mark IIIV
well as i posted not too long ago, a friend of mine has a 96 mark IIIV and claims he just absolutly tears on newer GT's... so i figured i would give him a run. we ended up going out this back road, which from bridge to bridge is a 1/4 mile. from a stop i put about 3 1/4 cars on him haha, off the line it was just disastrous for him. he got really cocky and told me he wanted to go from a roll...i said fine, from a 25 roll up to about 110 i had about 3 1/4 cars on him. he proceeded to talk crap saying its because of my mods and all, well he is just lucky my 3.73's dont get put in till may 2nd just happy i got to shut him up.

killed him by almost 4 cars? damn. a first gen mark 8 (93-96) are know to hit low 15s to high 14s stock. i've seen bone stock 93 mark 8's run 14.6's. those marks came with the 4v DOHC 4.6 with 280hp- basically a detuned cobra engine. off the line they are sluggish bc of stock 3.08's, and also weigh arond 3900lbs. but up top they pull hard. slap on 3.73's, chip, and jmod(performance mod to the 4rw70 trannys) and it will run low 14s all day. and stock for stock can hang with any 94-98 GT. nice kill though!

On a roll, those Marks are FAST. I've seen chipped Marks take out LT1s on the highway. Their aero is also amazing, so the higher the speed, the more advantage it has.
The Mark broke the speed record for its class in 1993, when it went 183 mph on the Bonneville salt flats with a bone stock engine (with taller gearing).

That's exactly what I'm wondering. The Mark VIIIs have 280 to 290 hp, basically a 4V Cobra motor. I can't believe a nearly stock 98GT with about 240 hp can beat it that badly.
