Default cammed LS1 T/A vs nitrous 2 valve gt

So i'm on my way home from meeting a few of my buds earlier this evening. I'm taking the e-way home, and out of nowhere a loud red LS1 T/A pull up next to me. He gives a few revs, so i drop down to 3rd at around 65-70 mph, and few seconds later he does the same. I honk it off, and after a second or two i start pulling just a little. I hit 4th with a slight lead, and continue a slight pull with me ending up with about a car length by the top of 4th. After that we try it one more time (again a 3rd gear roll) with pretty much the same results. Only this time i jumped slightly, but continued to pull just a little again, running to the end of 4th.

Well i needed to take a leak so i got off at the next exit, and my boy follows. He follows me into the gas station parking lot and we chat for a few. Here are the details of his ride: 2002 WS6 T/A 6-speed with basically full bolt ons, stock gears, cam, LS6 intake, and tune. It put down 415 rwhp. I asked if he had ran it at the track before, and he said not since he added the cam. He ran a 12.7 before the cam. Also he was rolling on some nice rims (not sure if they were 17's or 18's) and was a really cool dude. It was funny because he told me he did not expect me to pull him lol. He said he saw that it was a gt, and figured it wouldn't be a problem. Even after i told him that i ran a 100 shot with just bolt ons and a small set of cams, he was still impressed with my ride. I thanked him, and complimented him on his ride as well.

Anyways, it was a good fair race, and overall i'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Yeah, the guy in the T/A was really surprised lol. He said he can beat his buddy that has a Procharged 2006 Mustang gt with 450 rwhp, so that made me feel pretty good.

I really think these cams are a nice addition to the nitrous on a 99-04 2 valve car. The juice gives us all the low/midrange power in the world, and the cams bring it out on the high end. It works out pretty well IMO.

Bottom line (as you now probably know lol) people really don't expect much from these cars. A lot of times when i win a race that i technically shouldn't have, i get the same reaction...they're usually pretty surprised.

Good run! I agree with you about the cams, from what I've seen they do seem to work wonders for the 2V top end.

Thanks guys! I was just glad i could hold him off at highway speeds like that, being that cammed LS motors have MAJOR top end power. He said his cam was a 220 or 224 cam?? I don't know...it was something like that. From what he was saying it was a decent sized cam. It sounded really good.

Thats a popular cam (224), not over the top but not a baby cam by any means.

Yeah it had a 560 or 580 lift on 112 LSA IIRC. So i assume it's a 224 duration then?
