'12 5.0 vs LS1 SS

'12 5.0 vs LS1 SS
A guy with an LS1 Camaro SS followed me around for a bit. Car had a very mild cam, but very quiet exhaust and street tires. Several sloppy runs with him getting the hit and me reeling him in. I do not think the car was set up right for that cam at all or something was off. Got one clean run from a dig; launches were even, minimal spin and cars were even until I hit my power band and I started pulling. Second was not exactly a clean run, but I did shut his flyby down and proceeded to put car lengths and lengths until I was gone and he gave up; he started out some distance behind me and I saw him nail it. It took me a bit to shut the flyby down, but he got about half a car behind me when I started pulling and adios. He quit following me after that. The power at the top in this thing is still unreal to me. I had 1/4 tank of gas, 1 passenger, some weight reduction, properly filled tires, traction ctrl 100% on, and a bama 91R tune. I had such better results launching with the traction ctrl completely on. As I said I think that car was not set up right or something was really off. It reminded me of a couple weeks ago when I test drove a '94 5.0 we were considering and that thing had a full exhaust with LT's. I asked the guy if he had any head or intake work and he said no. Sure enough that thing bogged down and the exhaust was not loud at all.

Dang, I agree that either the car or the driver had something going on. Maybe it was cammed but not tuned, which would hurt him pretty bad.
Nice run still. 5.0's have an undeniable top end. Once you tune one, it takes a decent amount of modding an LS1 to catch back up. My bolt-on car could probably stay on a tuned 5.0's *** pretty close, but it IMO it would take a small cam to actually pull.
