Default Seems slow for a 5.0

Well I took her out to the track last night... Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, AZ. It was a great night for a Test n Tune. I got 16 runs in which is amazing. Even if I was there from 5PM to 11:30PM.

Here is my best slip.. I think I should be fast but I just couldnt get any better at all. I started in the 16s and brought her down to a consistent mid 15.

What do you guys think? Is there something wrong with it?

2.4 60' is KILLING you.... where you spinning, or is it REALLY lazy out of the hole?

I ran 16.1 to 16.3 at bandimere with the stock automatc, stock heads, w/ bolt on's. I ran 15.1's at bandimere with stock heads and bolt on's with the 5 speed. (I was pulling 2.0 60's with the automatic, and 1.70 with the T5)

13.0 on motor now........ or when the car WAS running I should say.

your parts list say E7 heads with 1.9 valves? even GT40 valves arn't 1.9 I don't think. If I remember right stock E7 valves are 1.55 or something. I'm not even sure stock heads can go to a 1.9 valve.

stock heads and a automatic... even with the baby stall. the times are not THAT bad, but I would think it might be a hair faster. unsure. dunno about the heads, and as you already know from racing at bandimere.... racing in high elevation is a bitch.

e7's, even worked over, suck. That's your big choking point on the engine, the converter is so small it's basically not much better than stock. and the gear is pretty bad too. From the picture it looks like you're also on a street tire. IMO if you want better times, swap the converter to a 3500 or so, throw in a 3.73/3.90/4.10 rear gear, and find a cheap used pair of 555r's for the rear. Those alone along with dropping your 60' a lot would probably drop more than a second. If you can find a set of worked gt40's or a good deal on some aluminum heads that'll help the top end(mph) a lot as well. Also, that elevation is terrible. Just using a DA calculator to correct for that bad air shows a potential for mid 14's@100mph. If you were to do the mods I suggested and could find a track with better air(under 1000 da) then IMO you'd be low 13's.

Looks about right to me. Between the DA and the lousy sixty. Your a NA motor making 300 to the wheels if your real lucky.

I'd guess around 260 considering going thru an auto and the e7's.

No I didnt spin at all, it is just super lazy out of the hole. I try to let her rip just below 3k but it ends up being like 2800 which instally drops down a little lower as soon as she hits, and it takes almost to the 1000 ft before she is really in the power. Once I hit around 3500 she pulls hard and it feels good.

I ran 16 runs starting with a 16.9er and just worked my way down. That 15.466 is on the money for about as good as I can do at this point with these mods.

Yeah I agree with you since I have been thinking about it. The stall is my biggest enemy, then my gearing. I am pretty sure with just a bigger stall I could drop almost a second off my time. with some 3.73s or 3.55s I could maybe even touch low 14s, I dont know. My main thing is this a DD and I dont want to throw a stall in that will kill my DDing of the car you know? same with the gearing.

Yes I am on street tires because I just bought this car as is about 3 days ago now haha.

Yeah the 60 kills me, but I have traction so not much I can do about it unless I upgrade the stall or the rear end.

Yeah the e7s are choking for sure and the guy said they are modded but no way to tell without popping them off. And it doesnt leak so no need for that yet.

*****

The goal for this car is to be my DD when it is too hot or cold to ride my bike or I have to drive over 5 miles.

Do you think a 3200 stall will hurt my DDing at all? Same goes with a 3.73/4.10 Would I be better off with 3.55s?

What are some good heads that will work well on a 347 stroker dart block and this one? I plan on eventually getting another fox and putting its stock motor into this one with T5 for daily duty while swapping the rest over to a more drag oriented car.

The altitude, your '60 and your head/cam combo are killing you.

Seriously? It's an E303. It's 20+ year old technology and nets hardly any benefit over a stock cam besides a better sounding idle. All the FRPP 5.0 cams are dinosaurs at this point, much better options out there.
