Shameful *sigh*

Ok, I knew this was going to happen, but it still sucks. Yes, I took the Shelby, and no I didn't get any DRs. I made three passes with TC on with the slips below. I figured it was time to get brave and took the TC off and lordy me was I in for a surprise. On the street it lights up with TC on, but on the strip not so bad, so, I thought the stickier surface would make a difference. I feathered it in 1st and went WOT with the back end deciding it want to swap ends......short shifted to 2nd and when I hit 3k the same thing, but, I thought I could ride it out.......NOT......it was ugly. I didn't hit the wall, but whew it got interesting there for a few moments. I almost soiled my shorts. To make a long and shameful story short I definitely learned that 550 ponies and 4.10 gears truly truly suck at the 1320. The car was set up for a road course with a Steeda Watts link and I could see how the 4.10s would be good in 3rd and above, but they really suck launching.....and I suck too....just not controllable by me.

This was the 1st 2nd 3rd runs.....dang it.....sorry tiny pic rotated them

Oh, and for grins and giggles, the other time was a Smokey and the Bandit T/A which was gorgeous.

The 4.10s don't suck...... Your TIRES suck!!

Get some drag radials on that thing and you will be AMAZED at the difference. I picked up a full second in the 1/8th by using DR's. These cars are NOT track friendly on street rubber.

One of the first purchases I made after my first time at the track. Nothing happened but I had no traction at all out the gate. I'd say with the hp I'm running and many others that it's truly unsafe to drag at the track without slicks. Get some slicks and enjoy people complimenting you on your times

bluebeastsrt 10-04-2013 11:26 PM

Ya gotta start somewhere. Besides I'd say you did well. 2.0-2.1 sixty is pretty good for a car with that much power with street tires.. The 4.10 should be great with the proper tire and suspension set-up.

Looks like you're picking up some good speed in the back 1/8 though.

okbfd 10-05-2013 01:20 AM

LOL....I have to admit that I had an absolute blast, so, yes some decent rubber is going to be my next mod.

S8ER01Z 10-07-2013 08:46 AM

Note to self... if GT500 is on bad tires you might have a chance. LOL some tire under that thing and it's going to fly.

drhoward 10-08-2013 10:45 AM

At least you had fun, lol

Those are some really decent 60' times with that car, also there should be pictures of your car at the track, for science

Mishri 10-08-2013 12:05 PM

get tires and go again now! i want to see how low you can go.

Stone629 10-08-2013 08:18 PM

Okbfd, don't be discouraged man. Looks like you actually launched it pretty decent. You can't control what it does at the top of a gear or after a shift unless you simply take it easy..which would suck, lol. Buddy of mine is running a pulley/tune 2012 GT500 to the tune of 11.2-11.4 at 124 mph with a cheap set of 05 GT wheels and some MT ETs. Get some tires and do work.

okbfd 10-09-2013 06:31 PM

My builder found a set of 18x11 welded Cobra rims with Nitto 555Rs on them 305/35/18. It looks like they still have good rubber on them. Would these work? Sorry in advance.....ya'll know I'm a noob at the track :)

That's awesome to hear you back in the saddle again old timer! Your 3v was a beautiful machine, but this new one........ yep, its an upgrade for sure!

Your times are actually pretty good considering all the variables involved. I can't hardly cut 2.0-2.1's on street tires, I couldn't imagine trying to do it in a car of the caliber of yours.

As for the triple-nickles, I'm thinking they still won't be enough tire for your car. I don't have any personal experience with them, but my buddy just put some on his Termi and claims they still spin right much. For your ride a Micky, M&H, Hoosier would probably suit a little better. BUT, that said, the Nittos should still be a big difference from the street rubber.

Mishri 10-10-2013 09:40 AM

I wouldn't bother with them unless they were like $50...You can't find a good drag radial in 18" size. 15-17" rims are better. and I don't think those nitto's will grip as well as a good drag radial (okay I'm sure they wont).

like stone said, cheap set of take off rims, can get them for like $50(thats what I paid for mine).. ask around if you see someone with a GT with aftermarket rims. I then ordered some M&Hs... looks like their prices went up, they are now over $500 for a set. I think I paid just over $400 for mine.

bluebeastsrt 10-10-2013 10:16 AM

Look on Ebay for a set of new Mickey Thompsons slicks. I got my slicks for under $400. Slap em on a set of $100 dollar used weld wheels and your set. I found a set of Weld Alumistar skinnies on ebay for $200 in perfect shape. They would have cost over $900 new.
