Default 2012 5.0 Vert - First Time at Track

Hey guys, this is also my first post in the street/strip section. I have enjoyed reading a lot of the stories.

I have a '12 GT Vert with CAI, Tune, Off-road X-pipe, Axleback, Short throw shifter, and LCA's. Gears are stock, 3.31.

I took my car to Cecil County Dragway about 2 weeks ago. I had 5 runs. I was shooting for 12.50's, and managed a 12.70 @ 114 best. All but 1 run was in the 12.70 - 12.80 range, and that 1 run I hit the gate going into 4th. I think with some more track time I could get to 12.50's. My 60' was 2.1 for my best run. I didn't spin the tires, but I was bogging the motor down by letting up on the clutch too fast. All said I had a great time with respectable runs and I can't wait to get back to the track so I can get better!

Congrats on getting the Vert out there and thanks for sharing in the S/S section. Those 12.5s you were shooting for will come in the fall with better weather. Post up a couple photos of the slips.

some tracks won't allow a vert to go that fast without rollbars. I've been to one that even limited them to 14 seconds. But that varies from track to track.

LMAO, yeah but it is fun as hell and right in my backyard. I was required to have a helmet. I bought an SA2010 helmet, but they didn't even check that. Just that I had one. And top up of course.

I will post slips as soon as I get them scanned in.

It is a BAMA tune, so canned. I was running a 93 Race Offroad tune.

Welcome to S/S man! Those are some nice runs, especially this time of year. Later this fall I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you run faster than a 12.5. Trap should come on up too.

It is fun as hell. I work in Delaware so I get down to Cecil to race once in a while or at the very least enjoy several cold beverages while watching.

That's pretty good! Lots of people aren't able to run 12s in their stock 5.0s. So you're already there. Massage that 60-foot a little more and you'll be running low 12s!

Nice times!
Rev it a little higher while slipping the clutch, and you may hit the mid-12's even in this hot, humid weather.
