Default Coyote V8 Mustang Faces Off Against Tesla Model S

The Tesla P85D is fast, but can the techno wizardy that powers it beat the good old-fashioned V8 in a drag race?

That car leaves hard as hell....but curious why it doesn't run away from a roll with that power rating?

Teslas Electric Engines have a flat line of torque that starts quite high and drops at a certain speed, given that the car does not have a gearbox, it basically runs out of torque, so the top end speed of Tesla is not that high.

the torque drops because the battery heats up or something like that, but do not quote me on that as I am not sure why the torque drops.

Thanks,
Gus

I did not mean to say that the top speed is not that high, but that the the resla running at top speed is not producing too much torque

I believe the Tesla battery has both a cooling and heating system. I wonder if a couple of high speed runs overheats it.

The ratings are based on EPA's formula, in which 33.7 kilowatt hours (121.32 megajoules) of electricity is equivalent to one gallon of gasoline,[3
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miles_...ine_equivalent
I think the Tesla battery has about the equivalent of 2 gallons of gas. I'd guess an hour of normal driving might only leave a few seconds at high speed before the battery runs low.
So between overheating and running low, it might not be able to keep up with a Mustang.
I'd happily take one on from here to MN and back (700 miles). I can keep my 3.7 at 90 and make the round trip with one fill up.

Electricity doesn't do it for me either. Fast or not, it's lifeless. I need to know I have fire and metal under the hood.
