Default Major help needed with 04 cobra pulley

i posted this in the 4.6 section but maybe i can get a better response in here

my buddy got his cobra about a month ago when i sold mine. now i know the motor alittle but when i had mine i kept it stock. well he recently bought a diablo tuner that came with a pulley, not sure the size. but he installed it about 3 weeks ago and the car has been running fine. well we took it out today before we had to go to work and everything was fine but then when i was headed to work i get a call from him saying that he broke the idler pulley....im not sure if thats the correct one but when i got there i just glanced at it for a second because i had to get to work...i couldnt get a good picture of it but here is a reference....enjoy my ms paint skills

like i said i know the motor alright but im not exactly sure what pulley this is. but what happened was it basically looked like part of the edge of it was coming up i mean it was weird like somebody had taken it off and beat it with a hammer and part of the edge was pointing in. which in return broke the belt and most of it was eaten up inside there. also for some reason there was power steering fluid coming out pretty badly. he said most of it came out but luckily he was beside a shop so he just cruised into there.

can anyone explain what might of happened??

were guessing it was either a weak pulley in the first place and couldnt handle the power maybe but why the power steering fluid???

i havew heard of this happening before. and it is part of the reasdon why i changed all my pulleys to billet flow ones. also if that is his engine bay he doesnt have the aux idler which i understand is suppsed to help with the belt slip as well as the problem that you described. as far as the fluid goes i am not sure but maybe the belt hit a line as it broke and knocked something loose. i will tak a pic of my enginge quick so you can see what mean about the aux idlers and stuff.

Speak for yourself. I ran this combo for 40,000 miles on stock pullies and it's still going strong, now with 2.93/6lb lower. People take internet gossip and blow it way out of proportion. Out of 19,000 Terminators how many that were pullied that actually blew their stock pullies? I'd say less than 1%. I don't mean to blow up at you, but its this reason alone that people waste money on **** they don't need. I'm not saying that it isn't a good purchase either, just saying that research facts before going out and blindly buying stuff.

This is not an uncommon problem with the 2003/2004 stock idlers. I am assuming yours looks like it blew apart, correct? I strongly recommend that folks replace all of the stock idlers with aftermarket idlers. Billetflow is a good choice. The longer you drive with the stock idlers the more likely one or more will come apart like yours did. But again, this is not an uncommon problem. It may or may not have to do with frequent high RPM runs. Ie. racing.
