Any suggestions for modifying a stock 99 cobra?
Hi all. I just bought a 99 rio red convertible a few months ago and I haven't been able to modify it yet. I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions for some inexpensive mods that will help me take out those modded ricers.

Hey guys some answers have arrived. The first thing I did was take the stock air-filter off and replace it with a K&N filter (about $40), then I took the air box off (the cone-shaped thing the filter is enclosed in; that was free!), next im doing a complete exhaust re-do ( no i havent dont it yet) Im getting equal length headers from bbk, new x-pipe, flowmaters 40 series delta-flow mufflers, and new tips. the tips dont matter, but what does help is new headers. equal length headers dont let alot of back pressure bleed off into oblivion and flowmasters just sound nice! I dont know anything about you, but I would suggest, if you dont already know how, learn to drive your snake to its limits; most idiots in ricers dont know how to drive their cars the right way. Those are the only "inexpensive mods" I can think of. Oh yeah, get rid of that plastic tube that leads from your filter to your intake and get a tube thats the same diameter all the way through. K&N makes a tube thats pretty good, just look around and read everything you can about them. I found my tube on seanhylandmotorsports.com just a suggestion. Good Luck!

If its a stick, 3.73 gears.
Anything else do the usuals, pipes, catbacks, headers etc.
Dont bother with the CAI and MAF til way later since the ones you have are satisfactory. You really dont need to touch them til later on. Its too much money you could be putting into otherand BETTER things. The performance change with all that is minimal unless your running forced induction. Cobras come with 65mm dual throttlebody which is more than enough also.

I would put 4.10s in, that is what i have, it keeps it in the powerband 1-4 and i still get 21 mpg, next i would do the exhaust then cai then a tuner that stuff ought to have you crusiin so then start on the suspension. my mods are below and i amturning consistant 12.9s with whellhop, so the pwer is there you just have to use it!

4.10's are good for track and stock drag, but what if thats not what they want? what if they want an all around fast car but still have great mpg on the street? I say go with 3.73 gears, replace the air filter and take the plastic stuff off, then do your exhaust. If they're racing ricers on the street then they wont really need suspension......yet. Besides once you get 5 car lengths in front of them, they give up.
