Default IRS gong bad in 99 cobra I suspect the carrier bushings are bad

I have a 99 cobra with the IRS. The symptoms of the problem is that every time I up shift or any time punch the gas even the slightest bit the rear end clanks. the U Joints are like new and everything looks fine. I have read that the differential bushings are known to go bad on this newly designed rearend. My question is has anyone on here had the same probs and if so what were the symptoms and what did you replace and whether that fixed your problems. Thanks for any input

yes i had the exavt same problem, about a month or 2 ago my rearend started clunking real bad when i would hit the gas and let off or when i would change gears. I bought another 4.10 and had my mechanic check it out and he said my diff bushings were bad, so i got another set polys and put then in and has been fine ever since.

Thanks for the input ive got some quotes on having new ones put in but i was just wanting a second opinion before having the rearend pulled out. by the way how are those 4:10's as opposed to the stock gears.

a world of difference, it pulls very hard, and i would not go with anything under a 4.10. I put those bushing in myself in about 30 mins. I done one at a time, pulled the bolt the bushings came right out put the new ones in and put bolt back in, the easiest thing that i have done to the car.

i jacked one side of the car up and got under it loosened one bolt at a time and took the old bushings out put the new ones in and tightened it back. then i done the other side, did not have to loosed the springs or go throught the hassle that the instructions said, it went really easily,.

thanks for the help sound like an easy fix. Took it to a dealership a couple months back and they said the rack and pinion carrier was bad and total estimate to fix was 1500$ so this is all great news to me. Also was curious how your car respponded to the diablo predator.

very well, i actually went a couple months ago to my uncles performance shop and he gave me the 101 on tuning with it. My car was really rich so after leaning it out a little, it is very strong, big big difference.

where's a good site to get those bushings?
I got a 01 about a week ago and noticed the same thing you guys are talking about. When I shift it into gears, no prob, but when I get on the gas, I hear a little clunk. I was thinking that it was the u joints. Jacked it up and they were tight. I was then thinking that it must be the gears clunking, but reading this, I'm gonna check those out.

I did my own research and found out I can get these things anywhere, which is sweet. However, I still have that question about the gears.
