Default Aluminum drive shaft wear

98 Cobra-
Over the weekend I noticed a vibration at my feet that I hadn't noticed before. It occurred under 3/4 to full throttle in 3rd gear. Felt like my drive shaft might be rubbing against something. This evening after work, I crawled under it and there is a fairly deep groove in my drive shaft. It is being dug by the parking brake cables bracket. There is about a 3 inch clearance, but the bracket shows wear, too.

The drive shaft does not look warped and nothing feels out of balance. Can my suspension be giving that much under acceleration? I did just install my supercharger.

Thanks for any insight.

Your ride height is the problem. Lowering a mustang 2 or more inches can cause the ebrake assembly to rub the driveshaft. I dont know how to fix that problem though.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll get a new drive shaft and try to figure out a way to move my e-brake assy. I like it lowered and don't want to have to change that.

Would I lose a lot going back to a stock drive shaft?

Hey I think i am hearing the same noise. Does it sound like a humming noise(almost sounds like your tires need balanceing). IT happens to me on the highway at around 55 to 65 miles per hour. Let me know if it sounds like the same problem.

No, it is not while cruising. It is only under hard acceleration, and only briefly. It feels, more than sounds, like vibration from the drive shaft.

you won't "feel" a difference, but it will make a small one.
