Default Painting Tips and Advice

Heres the deal, I'm going to be spraying my hood, drivers side skirts, and a cervinis stalker front bumper. I've got black dupont paint, gray thick primer, activator, reducer, clear, and bulldog prespray treatment.

As far as equipment I've got a DA sander, 800 grit paper, a decent compressor that can handle painting and an HVLP gun I purchased from Advance Auto.

Pieces are already sanded down to be primed.

What I need to know is every single tip you guys can give me on painting these pieces so it wont look like *** and wont have orange peeling.

I am pretty much a novice at this sort of thing, but I refuse to pay a body shop and get ripped off. I simply do not have the money. So if theres any terminology involved please explain them for me.

Thanks guys!

make a booth out of some 3 mil so you dont get any dust, and maybe set up a fan to pull away the overspray...

+'s on both of those guys above me. Also try to come acros some fish eye remover (a must get). The main problem with back yard painters is they get rushed with the pret. Make sure everything is perf before you start and make sure you wipe down everythinga bunchbefore you lay down your first coat. Idk if you want to spend the time and effort with dialing in your gun but a good starting point is full blast on all your *****. Get a real long hose running from your compressor to your gun and lay most of it flat on the ground and that will help pick up a lot of condensation. Also idk if you are spraying on a clear but for your color coats either way black covers way good i would spray 1 light 4 pretty thick coats with some orange peel and 2 more light 2 flaten it out a bit... any ?'s let me no...

I would be too. That would be like you saying your installing your own gears but, you've never done it before.
