Default '03 Cobra rear-end noise..ect.

I'm a FOX body guy who doesn't know much about the 03-04 Cobras...been out of the Mustang world for a while....Thought that buying a 03-04 cobra would be better/more reliable then building-up a fox body. (i want to go fast, but also want reliability? is that possible?
I'm currently looking at a '03 cobra Coupe, 25K miles....for $26,400...from a ford dealership. When I test drove the car Iheard/felt a slightrear-end "clunk"when shifting at low RPM's...is this common?
The salesman stated there were no aftermarket parts on the vehicle...when I opened the hood, I saw the K+N FIPK...not the most significant upgrade, but.... To the naked eye there didn't look to be any other mods...exhaust..ect!! The car seems to be in pretty good shape except for the crumbs and stuff...
Would I be better offgetting one through a private sale? Any input appreciated...Thanks

That's a bit high on the price side - you should be able to get them down a k or 2... Look under the car.. the clunk is a normal thing... mine was doing it until I had them fix the leak in my differential casing.

Look to see if the pulley gaurd is on... if it is, look to see if its been removed, or broken... It's its off, look at the size of the pulley, or to see if it's been scratched up... then you'll be able to tell that it's pullied...

The pulley guard is still on...If it wasn't and it was pullied.....would that be a bad thing?

well you really want a car that hasn't been pullied. Once it's been pullied, it creates a lot more heat causing things to go wrong unless the person did the correct modification.

I told the salesman a few weeks ago that I decided against getting the car because the price was to high. He said he couldn't drop it any lower. Then hecalls meyesterday out of the blue and drops the price from $26,400 to 24k... I think I may have my Terminator!!!
