Crank Pulley Bushings Wore Out
My 03 Cobra motor is out for new head gaskets (bummer), and the shop noticed that on my crank drive pulley for the blower, the rubber bushings are worn, allowing play between the pulley and the shaft that attaches to the rear crank pulley and crankshaft.
I'm assuming that this is a BIG problem. If left alone, I expect those bushings to fall apart pretty soon.
Ford doesn't sell replacement bushings, requiring replacement of the entire pulley assembly including mounting bracket... over $800 just for the part, and it's a "special order".
I've seen aftermarket overdrive crank pulley kits that attach to the rear crank pulley without the stock support bracket (an no bushings), which looks weaker in my opinion. If I overdrive the crank pulley, I need to change blower pulley to keep the same boost.... but I have an extra (correct size) blower pulley, so that is not a problem.
I autocross, and drive pretty hard on a daily basis, so the most reliable solution is very important. Anybody seen pulley bushings go out like this? Any suggestions for the best fix?
