Drive train clunk?

Just got my 99 Saleen Cobra and I am noticing that when you let off the gas and then get back on it "medium to hard" that there is a big clunk. What does it sound like is wrong? I am looking to put a 4:10 in it and I figure that the problem is probably in that area to begin with. Any advice would be helpful.

RE: Drive train clunk?

My first guess would be u joints. One of the roller bearings probably busted. Any easy test is to put your car in reverse and accelerate lightly moving your car about 10 to 15 feet. Then brake smoothly to a stop. Now put the car in 1st or drive and accelerate with throttle about halfway open. Did you hear the clunk? Although this doesn't narrow it down to a u joint being the problem, it gives you a pretty good idea.

Do you have a T56 trans? I think most (if not all) Terminator Cobras have that problem, and personally I think the T56 has a lot of slack in it. I plan on swapping over to the Viper spec trans in the future. But as above, I would check the U joints also.
