Default Gear preference?

Debating on swapping to a 3.73 or 3.90 gear, maybe 4.10 if I hear some positive feedback but I'm pretty sure that's too low for me. My '04 Termi isn't a daily driver, and I've done nothing to correct wheel hop except upgrade to BFG KDWs, big improvement over the stock F1s.

Stock gears are what... 3.55 I think? You have 3.73s in there now? That seems like a waste of an upgrade, and from there, 3.90s would be too. Go for 4.10s if you want more, I hear a lot of positive things said about them. I imagine that there would be no such thing as a 1st gear for most daily driving with 4.10s though. I have 3.73s and I already start in second sometimes. You can probably get better feedback from people who have used them.

By the way, I personally don't think any more than the 3.73s are necessary. I already have no traction with 3.73s and as you start adding power, you're going to be wishing you didn't have such aggressive gearing unless you really plan on racing it.

Yeah, stock = 3.55, that's what I still have so I'm thinking 3.90would be a noticeable difference for me. For some reason I've always thought 4.10 was too low for street but I don't seem to hear that much anymore. I just don't want to have to drive it home from the tuner in a couple of weeks wishing I hadn't gone so low.

If you still have 3.55s then you probably would see a decent increase going to 3.90s, that's probably the highest I'd suggest. I've even heard guys start complaining about anything more than stock when they start adding a lot of power. If you do go to 3.90s or 4.10s, I'd definitely take care of your rear end first. You're going to be a lot more likely to spin the wheels and get tire hop from there. It all depends on how the car feels to you. If you can hook up well and want shorter gears and harder acceleration, go for it. Me, I'm still getting used to my car as is. [8D]

I have a 1997 Cobra with 4:10 gears, I use the car for time trials and HPDE. I find it geared to low to drive regular on the street, I also find it to low on long tracks like Watkins Glen. I peak out at 7400 rpm (cut off speed) in fourth gear long before the end of the straight. I think 3:90 would be a much better gear choice. I also am running 18 " wheels with 275/30x18 Hoosiers.

Yeah, and if I'm already hopping why bother going to the extreme of 4.10? I think a pulley+tune+3.73 or 3.90 should be enough.
I doubt I'll ever run Watkins Glen but thanks for putting it into perspective.
Most of my concern is the new GTO down the block. I haven't met the guy yet but it only a matter of time.

I would go 3.73s.. espically if you drive it a good bit, 4.10s are unecessary, 3.90s ive heard both good and bad things about but a rear end job isnt fun or if you're paying for it cheap, so dont do something you will regret.
