1997 supercharged cobra/problems
We finished installing a 7psi kenne bell kit on my friends 97 cobra. its very easy and pretty much bolt on. The car started fine and runs well. In the third and fourth at part throttle there is a one second lag and sometimes the car backfires. Anybody have any opinions ???
1997 cobra, longtubes, x-pipe, no cats, 4.10 gears, twin 65 throttle body, mac cold air, ngk tr6 plugs, boost-a-pump set at 25%, thanks |

Are you using the chip from kenne bell.

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
Yes,and we followed all the instructions. we didn't change anything.

I think you have your boost a pump set to high it should be around 10% with only 7 psi. You technically dont even need to have boost a pump on till u run about 9psi. I have mine going just in case. Do you have an air fuel ratio guage in the car. If so whats it reading at.

Thanks, I'm going to try that and recheck the plugs at the same time. They are new, but you never know.
Thanks |

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
You may want to ditch the ngk plugs im running motorcraft and they work like a dream. And the chip from kenne bell is a tune

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
what octane fuel are you running? also have you contacted kenne bell about your problem. they were very helpful with all the little problemswhen i put mine on my car.

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
we have the kenne bell chip which was tuned with all of the car info. we're using 94 octane. we haven't called kenne bell yet, we want to go over everything first. can the plugs cause engine lag ??
|
RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
Yes and no. they can be getting blown out does it only do it under WOT. I had the same problem with the lag but then i put motorcraft plugs in it and it dissapeared that and i turned my boost a pump down.

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
OK man heres what you do. KB can only do so much of a tune for your car without seieng it and dynoing it. I had a custom mail order tune from a very reputable company but when I put it on my vorteched 98 it was really, really lean and making low numbers. Tell your friend he needs to take his car to a good tuner and have them dyno tune it. I know that might not be the cheapest way but he will be very glad with the results. I went from a custom mail order tune with a lean a/f raito and making 330 rwhp to a dynotune with good a/f ratio and 380 rwhp just by having the guy at the dyno change a few things in matter of minutes.

Thanks for the input. Should we get the car dynoed and send the sheet and chip to kenne bell for a retuneor get an xcal and tune from someone local ?
|
RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
In my opinion id ditch the kb chip. Whatever place you have it dynod at will be a sponsor of a tuner company. They can either burn you a custom chip or sell you a handheld. if you have the money go handheld. Let me know the results and all man.

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
We turned down the boost-a-pump to 10% and the car runs much better. But sometimes when we let off the throttle and then stomp on it real quick it backfires. But if we accelerate gradually its ok. what do you guys think ?????

RE: 1997 supercharged cobra/problems
Try turning it down a bit more and see if that solves the problem. It seems like ur air fuel mixture still isnt right.
