97' Cobra: How do you convert from Coil packs to Coil on plug?
Hey everyone;
How do you convert to coil on plug?
I like that its a cleaner look.
I figured since we were installing the Mach1 engine into the cobra instead of the shortblock I would also convert to the coil on plug setup.
Is it possible to convert or will I need to keep the coil packs?
Also I know the 03/04 Mach 1 knock sensor is a larger sensor, but is the plug the same as the 97' Cobra? If not how do I get past that?
Any other things that I should know about before putting the Mach1 engine into the Cobra?
Btw, I will be using the 97' Cobra harness and changing the plugs where I need to, but I am still going to keep the EV1 plugs from the cobra and not change to the EV6 of the Mach1.
Thanks
-Eric-

There's no huge benefit for running COP's. It will be much more of a hassle to convert than it's worth. You need the computer, the wiring harness and obviously all of the COP's. If you have them, then your all set. You need the computer for the COP's though. You cannot run a computer for coil packs with Cop's and vis versus. The knock sensor is a variable sensor which is different. It not only takes away timing for detonation it gives maximum timing if your engine can handle it for max. performance. I would have to see wire schematics before I told you how it would need to be hooked up if at all possible.

I have the Mach 1 engine wiring harness and the ECM from the Mach 1 as well. But I know if I use the ECM I have to get the passive anti theft removed. At least that is what i have been told and I dont know where to have that done at.
For the Mach 1 engine harness, will that plug right into the 97' Cobra pig tail? If it will then it will be easier for me just to use all the Mach1 parts, as long as the 97' pigtail harness is compatable.
About the knock sensor, what can I do about that?

No it won't be just a plug and play operation. You can however do that just plug it in, but you will need to move a few pinouts on that wire harness and swap out computers or get that one programed for the cops. Which one's I don't know. It's not worth all the work for very little benefit
