help! 99-01 cobra owners
ok, im looking at 01-04 gt's for a DD and know everything i need to know, however i can't quite find all the info im looking for on the 99-01 cobras. im basically wondering what the average city/hwy mpg you guys get (with stock gears and light driving), what any younger guys pay for insurance and how long these engines will go without needing a major rebuild. maybe they dont even make good daily drivers? i have no idea! help me out so i know if im wasting my time looking at them for this application haha, thanks

I love my 01. Its gets about 22-24 mpg/hwy, but that is with 4.10s. I have 90,000 miles on it and have driven it very moderately for the past 50,000 that I have had it. She makes a wonderful DD

yea light driving i get pretty good gas mileage 20+.not my daily driver but i'll drive it about 2-3days a week.has 56,000 miles on it, and i bought it with 50,000 around december. i'm 24 and pay around $180 for insurance (full coverage)

thanks for the info guys, unforunately though it looks like a GT is more suited to my needs right now - but hopefully i will be back to the SVT page some day as an owner.

I got about 21 mpg with a jam packed car ( back seats, trunk filled to the brim with stuff ), a passenger, and doing about 80 mph when I went camping.

ORIGINAL: Black*Death Buy and 01 Cobra. The improved heads and 31 spline axlemake it a better buy IMHO than 99. Although i do think the 99 Teksid block is superior. If you have ruled out a Terminator 03-04 then the 01 is the way to go. Don't buy a GT if you have plans for upgrading. I bought a 99 Cobra, but it came supercharged with full aftermarket exhaust, a TKO 600 and aftermarket alminum flywheel. You'll be driving your GT and for a few thousand more you'll say you wish you had a Cobra. The only other thing to do would be to buy a 05 S197 GT but then you'll be in the pricerange of an 03 Cobra. There is no real difference in gas mileage between a new Edge GT and New edge Cobra |

ORIGINAL:as for the 31 spline axle, this is a LIE by ford... even though it is stated that 2001 cobras are supposed to have 31 spline axles, THEY DO NOT! they are the same 28 spline crap that the 99's have |

werent there a few other things in 99 that arent as good as 01? also, if it is true that the gas mileage is about the same, even though the cobra takes higher octane than the gt, i might just go for it since it really doesnt add up to being that much of a difference- assuming the insurance isnt ridiculous. it really just depends what i find first since im buying through my aunt at a dealer auction:D. this is a tough decision and it shouldnt be haha. well thanks for the help guys, i guess ive got something thinking to do cuz i need a car asap!

yeah if u dont drive like an idiot all the time, which you shouldn't if u own a cobra why the hell would you beat the hell of out your car you will see 20+ highway
