Just look at the acceptable fitment of a ANY 315/35 tire. I challenge anyone to find a 315/35 rated for a 9" wheel as a 275 is max per all manufactures I have seen. It will obviously fit, but places stress on the sidewall of tire it was not designed to have. Go ahead and run them, but I would be willing to bet that if you had two sets of 9" wheels, one with 315/35's and one with 275/35's, you would find the 275's superior in the cornering dept.

Jazzers humble opinion

I have 2 sets of my '03 Cobra rims! ....the 315's are for the track only (and local cruise is...)....no question the 275's will out corner a 315 on a 9" rim (don't think that the case on a 10.5" rim)...but, I'm using the 315's for the drag's....

Nitto 555's street tires mounted on my real good set!

I agree

My 315/30's fit wonderfully on 11"s and that is a lot of contact patch and VERY little sidewall flex with R888's = difficult to touch on the twisties . I would say the 315/35 Nittos are probably pretty good for 1/4 mile. Certainly a better launch pad than a 275/35

I never said that a 315 on a 9" rim will out corner the 275, pumpkin... But it will get better straightline traction...

^ I never said you did, I just said a 315/35 is too much tire for a 9" wheel

lol..

Jazzer - while the 315 nitto is rated for a 10.5 wheel... it's actually slimmer then all the other tires.. which is why it fits... it's the only one that will fit; without any bulge. The contact patch on a Nitto 315 is not really different on the different wheel sizes.... now, anyother tire.. absolutly.

on the other hand, anyone trying to take hard corners in a Mustang does not need to be on a nitto d/r doing it... that's a bad idea whether it's a wide tire or not... they're just not made for it.

if you go back to my 1st post that started this thread, just wanted to see if anyone was running 315 Nitto DR's on a 9" wheel...I was fully planning on buying 10.5" wheels until I read the article on CobraBob's web site...

Since I have a 2nd set of my Cobra wheels, I'm going to pop the Nitto 315 DR's on for the drags...if it does not work out well, I'll buy the 10.5" wheels...

Ran across while doing research. Just got 2 rear 555r 315/35/17 running on 9 inch rims. Tires fit just fine. Probably close to 1 inch between IRS bolt and tire while on the ground and settled. Running at 28psi. On advice from installer, I'm waiting a good 3-5 days before I really punch it and see the difference between these and the 275 555s.
