Default 1999 cobra

I have a question can anyone tell me how much horsepower a 1999 cobra has because i was on some website and the were saying that they had about 250 horses. Here is a quote that was posted.

"The '99s didn't put out the power they were supposed to. so ford recalled them to "fix." them..In general, earlier Cobras were making as much as 270 to 280 horsepower at the rear wheels, easily 305 horsepower at the engine's flywheel. We had seen firsthand one '99 Cobra that was being tested before some aftermarket modifications, and it only made 250 horsepower at the drive wheels — or about 300 horsepower at the flywheel.

Once word got out, Ford issued a recall on '99 Cobras and came up with a retrofit kit that brought the 4.6-liter V8 up to the 320-horsepower level. The problem was that the advent of this package which included a redesigned exhaust system from the catalytic converters back, an ExtrudeHoned intake manifold and a recalibrated EEC-V computer processor didn't come on the scene soon enough for it to be incorporated into 2000 model year Cobras.

Is this true? Can somebody please tell me what the proper horsepower is for the 1999 cobra. Really looking into buying one.....I would really appreciate all the info... THX

That is 100% correct. Before the "fix" they were putting down less power than the '98's, but once "fixed" they make the same power as the 01's. 320hp which approximates to about 280 rwhp.

Thats 100% true. Just buy one and if it does not have the recall done, take it to any ford and they will do it for free. No big deal.

Not all '99s were affected, but you can check if yours has had the recall by calling 1800 Ford SVT, or going to

http://www.ford.com/owner-services/maintenance-service

BTW, Ford has canceled the program, so they no longer fix the cars for free.

Most "fixed" 1999 Cobras will put down 260 to 270 stock. I would think it rare to come across one that hasn't had "the fix".

There was no 'Cobra" for 2000 except the Cobra R so not sure what they are talking about when incorporating something into a Cobra??
