Default 2003 Cobra is going through cats???

I sold a friend some used bassani cats last week for his cobra. His passenger side cat had given up and started making an awful racket. He put my set of cats on that didn't have 2000 miles on them. Within a week the passenger side cat had given up again. What gives????

The car is not stock by no means. It runs 7.20s.

Main cause for going through cats is running super rich. Fuel does carnage to cats.

it is destroying the honeycomb inside the cats. When I shake them, I can hear it.

The 7.20 is in the 1/8 mile. It is still a stock car at full weight. The blower has been ported and is well in the teens in boost.

I will let him know about running rich. I assume he will go through another before the weekend is up.

mine almost did not pass smog when i bought it. 800 miles later it would not pass. Had to replace the cats. It has a 2.80 pulley LT bbk headers and a tune.

When they pulled his car off the rack, I couldn't even smell it. I also didn't see any smoke out of the car when he left. I guess it could be a different story when pushing the upside of 15 lbs or more.

bad 02 sensor could cause this.
go to pepboys and have them run (or attempt to run since the car is modded)
a diagnostic. and see if it throws any codes..
it's a free service

Long tubes can melt cats if you hit the rev limiter any amount of time, run retarded timing or race fuel. A couple of guys on the other boards were mentioning and showing pics of melted cats due to heat in the exhaust. I'll look it up...
