Newbie from Michigan
Hello fellow Mustang owners. I just picked up my first Mustang ever. 1998 Cobra Convertible. Bone stock car with 64,000 miles, from the original female owner. Being a former GM F-body guy, I can see that DOHC 4.6 is a different beast.
I don't plan to race the car, it's simply a weekend ride for my son and I.
I don't plan to run NOS, S/C, and I don't want to install headers right now.
My question is, where do I start. I'm looking for opions please
Gears? I've heard both 4:10 and 4:30 will wake up the car.
CAI or Ram air?
H or X pipe, cats or no cats (no emission test in MI)?
Which cat back (I don't want to go deaf so LM1 are out)?
Thanks.

Either intake will do fine, get a jlt!
In my opinion h-pipe it is a deep tone compared to an x-pipes more raspy
I love my mac exhuast but my girlfriends ears usually hurt her so I guess that's not best for you, I'm not sure what would get you what u want but search youtube for exhaust clips to get an idea
Also if you weren't given the svt certificate you can go through ford and get one for I believe 45 bucks
Oh and welcome to mf!

Thanks
Thank you for the replies so far. I am located in Freeland, MI. I actually bought the car from the org. owner in Zeeland, MI (west side of the state). I was quoted $250 today for the gear change labor. (not including parts). I understand with a 98, I either do the 7 tooth speedo gear swap, or get a calibration kit. (as in, a tuner won't reset the speedo to be accurate). I did some you tube surfing today. I really like the the mac pro chamber o/r mid pipe (bolted to stock manifolds). That leaves me needing o2 simulators i assume. I've heard it with the mac chambered exhaust, and flows..both sounded great I thought.
JLT ram air is on the list as well. Any issues with that fitting under the Cobra hood? I don't have a strut tower brace (not sure if they were fitted from SVT in 98 or not).
Any other advice or pointers are welcome :0
Thanks all, I'll try to get some pics up soon. Happy Thanksgiving !
